Mix-d Conference
HighRise Heritage is a workshop that was ran by Ryan Alleyne and Imran Ahmed.
Both facilitators are proud to be a part of the project since Day 1. After attending the first conference at the Contact Theatre in Manchester, and taking part in key discussions and interviews, the Stretford Grammar students were asked to lead discussions of their own, in their own workshop.
Here are some of the mix-d projects Stretford Grammar are proud to have been a part of:
Aswell as interviews with the BBC.
As the name suggests, HighRise Heritage focused on the fact that more than 50% of mix-d race people are under 16. The workshop was used to gather the thoughts and feelings from a portion of this 50%, and see how their views compared.
People from mix-d race backgrounds are projected to become the largest ethnic group in Britain by 2010; and, as a team, we were able to shine a light on important issues that are usually kept in the dark. We shared interesting and unique viewpoints, aswell as took part in activities that highlighted each others' past experiences. All in the hope to "affirm a positive self identity" and to "come to terms with the realities of mix-d lives."
